The “On the Go!” Travel Station is a pilot project of a customer information kiosk for the New York City subway and rail stations. Five stations (Grand Central, Penn Station, Bowling Green, Atlantic Avenue, Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue) have originally been equipped with the pilot units. The stainless steel enclosure is extremely durable, easy to maintain, friendly and welcoming. It comes in free-standing and wall-mounted versions. The kiosk features a large touch screen.
The high contrast interface is easy to use and provides customers all the information they need to successfully navigate the system. The lower portion of the screen features advertising which pays for the cost of the kiosks. Wheelchair users can flip the touch-screen interface, moving the advertising to the top and bringing all interactive features within reach.
We also designed a subsequent version, On the Go 2, which was piloted at the new Hudson Yards and Second Avenue Subway stations. It is now being marketed to other cities as the Waypoint by Civic Smartscapes.
