We originally designed the Kipferl chair for EssDur, the updated restaurant in the renowned Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna. When asked to design a new chair, we found inspiration in the history and context of the Konzerthaus, which was built in the early 20th century and originally furnished with Viennese bent wood chairs. Kipferl is now part of Gebrüder Thonet Vienna's collection.

We aspired to create a new modern classic dining chair that mixes historic reference and contemporary sensibility while achieving more comfort. And yet, we wanted the chair to be light, both visually and physically.
We gave the chair an inviting hugging gesture with a crescent-shaped upholstered backrest. Lower than typical backrests, it floats around the sitter’s lumbar for good posture support and relaxation. The elongated wings, serving as armrests, cantilever from a quintessential bent wood rear frame.
